I am soooo freaking tired after this weekend's Guide camp. It was a three day long camp from Friday-Sunday:
Friday:
It was my last day of school for the year so I rushed to get to guides.
We drove two hours to get to the campsite and arrived at about 6:30pm
we put up our tents in pitch black surroundings and my glasses broke!!!! (meaning that everything from then on I did wihout glasses)
We had (burnt) spahgetti for dinner and we went to bed and talked for a little while. (with our black babies! aka chicos) we finally went to sleep around 11:00pm
Saturday:
apparently we were supposed to have a 7:30am start but we didn't know so most of us were awake by about 6:30am. We went for a walk around the camp grounds and waited for the other districts to show up for our water day. There were 4 rotations:
coralcalling (not sure about da spelling) We had to create a raft our of 1 tarp, 1 flat float tube ring thing and hay. Ours resembled something like a present because we wanted to keep our hay dry... unlike other people who did not waterproof their hay and ended up sinking because the hay got too much water in it. Luckily their coracle was near the shore when it began to sink!
Canoeing: When I first arrived to this session we all had to stand beside the boat that we thought we would like, so I stood by a kayak. I did get to go in a kayak when we actually started-but it wasn't the one I had wanted. I was in the 'Dancer'-the hardest kayak to steer because it turns at the slightest hip-movement.
We went around the lake and covered the whole distance before coming back and having a canoe race. After the first race (I'd lost by a mile) Teatree told Cassie and I to swap and so we went to the shoreline. Cassie got out of hers just fine, but when I got out it tipped sideways and the 'Dancer' filled up with water and my leg got buried in mud that was literally thigh-deep. When I tried to empty the water from the dancer my other leg got buried and so I had to sit there, shovelling mud away from m legs because I couldn't move them... after that, it was pretty ordinary, my feet wern't scrunched up anymore and I could kayak properly once I was in one of the easy kayaks...
Water Sliding and swimming: They had this humungous slide! It was sooooooooooooo awesome! I can't even describe how fun it was to slide down. I just know that you have to scrunch your eyes shut, hold your nose and brace for impact. You hit the water really hard! It was so fun, the only problem was that we had to keep swapping lifejackets over and over because there wasn't enough.
Alison was supervising this group! (Trillium) I had fun catching up with her, we're pretty tight. I recky that Lentara and Alison could b sisters though. They look alike, they have similar attitudes and they even sound the same sometimes! I didn't realise how much I'd missed Alison!
Oh, and speaking of long lost leaders..there was Wandi. AKA my towel... lets just say her shirt got wet quite a few times when she wasn't even near the bank.-and she let me do it too!
after we finished sliding we all went for a swim (it mainly consisted of floating around in the float loop things...) There was a lot of chasing and I think we all had heaps of fun! At the end just before we got out I made an attempt to touch the bottom of the small pool/lake but I couldn't. It was that deep! I went double my height underwater and I still couldn't touch the bottom! That makes it over 3 1/2 metres deep at least!
Water Game: I thought that this was pretty boring (no offense to Chilpa and Lara and the others hu were running it) because it didn't reall make much sense and we kept changing the rules.
After the water day was over we all had a BBQ dinner (cooked by the Mare patrol..i.e-us) and everyone loved it! They wanted seconds and some of them even wanted thirds. We then had Mikki's Guides Own which I thought was fantastic! We made skewers of lollies that sybolised friendship! That's an awesome idea because it kep all the little kids occupied and all of us biggin's as well...we all couldn't wait to eat it. There was gonna be a tissue paper hot air balloon be set loose, but sadly, we didn't have enought metholated spirits so it never took off. But it sure was suspenseful waiting! and I thought that the hot air balloons looked fantastic even when they wern't in the air!
Next came the campfire and that was awesome! particularly bcuz we made it and it looked spectacular before we even lit it. It was actually really well built and it looked pretty cool in the end! Sadly, we never got our milos and smores because the little girls had had too much sugar and the leaders didn't want them up all night long. In our tent we were in bed at about 10:30pm I think...
Sunday (you've still gotta remember that I had no glasses all day today)
Horseriding!!! OMG! this was sooo fun.
we got up at 6:00am and got ready to leave, we packed up all of our stuff and headed to the horseriding place.
my group was first on the horses and I got to ride the one named Sherry. She was really nice and she was the tallest...apparently she is actually one of the harder horses to ride. At first when I got on I was absolutely terrified, I was shaking and practically crying. Lara took my horse for a little walk and asked me if I was feeling better, but instead I was more scared! I evemtually calmed downed down and got the hang of riding. It was so fun once I had got started. I learned how to trot and even went a little faster then a trot at one stage but i don't know what it is called. It was so much fun that I just kept wanting to get faster and faster and faster.
Finally, I'd just like to say that I don't see how Lara and I are alike! We look completely different I think, but the riding instructor thought I was a leader at first, and 8-year-old Jessica said this to me.
her: I keep thinking you're Lara because you're so big.
me: yeh, I guess so. You're just gonna have to find out the differences.
her: you're a bit bigger when I look at you both (Lara was over towards the side and couldn't hear us)
me: oh, ok
her: like, width-ways...yeh, you are big.
It cracked me up so bad! She didn't even mean it offensively, it was just the way that she said it, and she told the truth!
after horse riding we made damper, and our group's was by far the best. It tasted absolutely deliscious!!! I don't think it could have been any better!
then we made cariots, and my group also won again because I was the only one that knew how to tie a square lash that would hold something in place. So we won every race because half way throught thiers would break. (we had two big poles, 4 sticks, lots of rope and 4people to use to make it) So we had two wheels (gerry and bronte') a horse (me) and a rider (jess) It was really fun!
Last of all, after all this finished we packed up, headed back to camp, put away the tents, and ate lunch in record timing before leaving for Cairns. I didn't want to leave, but at the same time I couldn't wait to be home! It was so much fun there but I'm glad I'm home again now.
